'Penta' Lounge Chair by Jean-Paul Barray & Kim Moltzer for Bofinger 1960s

Architect and artist Jean-Paul Barray has created many interesting things during his life, but his most creative an innovative work he designed side by side with interior designer Kim Moltzer. One of their most daring creations was the Penta-line; a collection that started out as a challenge the designing duo had came up with for themselves: to design a whole living room set that they could fit into the back of a Citroën 2CV, to take with them when they wanted to have a picnic. Compact and comfortable, but also dismountable and foldable, the Penta range is portable and thus able to move from the living room to the garden, but also adapts easily to small interior spaces.

Freshly reupholstered in ivory coloured canvas, this angular, architectural lounge chair creates a lightweight yet sculptural silhouette, characteristic of the experimental modernist design seen in the 1970s. The combination of hard, exposed metal on one hand and the soft coloured canvas sling seat on the other, gives the chair a refined, minimalist aesthetic, perfectly fit for mid-century modern, Bauhaus-inspired, Space Age,  industrial, or contemporary interiors.
